Looking Back

January is traditionally the time to take stock and reflect on the previous year, and perhaps also to pause for direction for the next.

2025 was a year of change for me and my family. Significant birthdays and an empty nest gave us the opportunity to do some travelling in Vietnam with our family, and try out some new things.

Change of Scene

So last autumn, in 2025, we finally packed up our Sussex home, rented it out and made the move to France to enjoy a year of living there. It's been great so far, we're enjoying the challenge of brushing off some dusty French, and living life at a somewhat slower pace, with the blessing of the warmer autumn days.

Winter in January though, has brought snow on the Pyrénées, and with it a cooler air, but I've a lot to keep me busy as I'm working on a commission from Penguin Random House in New York, which is proving to be a dream job- that should keep me working hard for many months this year!

Keeping focused

I've been lying low on social media as I can't show what I'm working on until it's published and  I will share it of course in good time, but it's been so pleasurable taking time to pause, focus and work my way through ideas and inspirations without the distractions and the demanding nagging of instagram, although I have put on a little of our renovations and what we're doing here in France, on my other account @ohforthewings. Do have a peek if you've time.

Looking Ahead

So at the start of this new year of 2026, for me, I feel I'm looking ahead at enjoying different experiences, trying to rise to different challenges than before;

  • a new commission to accomplish but with the shadow of tight deadlines ahead

  • the fun of trying to renovate our

house here but on a very tight budget

  • the need to make friends all over again but in French!

  • and hardest of all, missing our family of 3, albeit, grown-up daughters and our friends at home.

But what would life be without challenges, and opportunities to try to learn and grow? I really hope the challenges you face this year are fun ones, not difficulties with stress and pressures, and I hope 2026 will be a wonderful year, filled with love, peace and creative joy for all of you.
