'Blackbird in January' was inspired when on a walk near my house in the Sussex Downs, hearing and then seeing a little blackbird singing on a day that was so cold and wintry. The landscape was stark and wintry, but still to me it seemed, he sang a cheery little song of hope for the coming year.
